Falmouth Gold Cup 2012 in pictures
Sailing conditions got off to a slow start in Falmouth for the opening races of the Gold Cup 2012. With a scheduled start time of 1pm sailors took their chances and began heading out to sea as supporters looked on from one of the best vantage points, Falmouth’s ‘Event Square’.
As the final sailors arrived at the start markers the wind dropped and silence fell. The only sounds where the insignificant waves that slapped at the dinghy hulls. Then in an instant Finns, Ribs & Yachts began chasing the wind. This sporadic chasing continued for nearly an hour. As press and support crew looked on and waited.
Finally at 1.55pm the first race warning single is sounded and the Finns head for the reorganised start line.
Staged in front of Pendennis Castle, Gyllyngvase beach and Castle beach the Finn Gold Cup 2012 was finally underway.
After two races Ed Wright (GBR11) was sitting in first with Ben Ainslie (GBR3) in 2nd and Deniss Karpark (EST) in 3rd.
