The Pendennis Cup 2014 – In Falmouth
The 4th Pendennis Cup will take place in Falmouth in just nine days. Organised by the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club the fleet of Superyacht’s will take part in four days racing between the 26th & 31st May.
Up to 15 superyachts are expected to take part including the 2012 Cup winner, 138ft Gaff Schooner, ‘Mariette of 1915’.
Great places to see the Superyachts
Events Square Falmouth – Each morning the yacht’s will leave Falmouth Marina at 9.30am. So grabbing a bite to eat and a coffee on the Square could make for a good start to the days race viewing. This is also the base for the Race Office where you can pick up race schedules, check the conditions, follow the results and there will also be a screen showing the previous days racing.
Pendennis Point – Racing takes place from 12pm* out in the waters between the Northern Roseland Peninsula, ‘Gull Rock’, and the Southern Lizard Peninsula, ‘The Manacles’. Possibly the best vantage point to see these spectacular yachts in full sail as they leave the deep water of Falmouth and head out to sea. There is usually a refreshment van parked on the point. Be warned parking is limited but the walk up to the point is worth taking.
Castle Beach, Gyllyngvase Beach & Swanpool Beach – If you aren’t fortunate enough to be out on the water, then the best place to be is on the beach. On a clear day it is possible to see for miles from all of our beaches but a good pair of field glasses would be an advantage.
* Racing will start at 11am on the 31st to ensure everyone gets to see …..
The Red Arrows (crowd goes wild! Who doesn’t get excited by the Red Arrows?)
As if the prospect of seeing some of the worlds most beautiful and perfectly crafted superyachts competing off the coast of Falmouth wasn’t exciting enough, the Red Arrows will be arriving over Falmouth at 3.30pm 31st May. What a Finale!
Where will you be watching?
